“Archetypal Bodies” R&D 2

The body

16th Oct

We experimented with vocalization with different body postures and facial expressions, as shown below. Our bodies naturally make sounds if we listen closely. From the stomach murmurs when we’re hungry or a vocal sigh indicates a heavy dinner, a heart-pounding sensation all-round the body after an intense sparring session or a heady thump from a migraine. Imagine one arm pointing at the sky and one arm pointing the opposite and extending your fingers beyond your hands, ground and sky. This elongation stretches your lats and ribs in an intense way if you’re prone to sit for long periods. In this instance, let the body naturally react to the sensation and see if your body responds to it.

We moved on to our faces after the exploration of the body postures. Faces represent a symbol of code, a wall of the signifier and a stratum crafted by our culture. In this exploration, we tried to acociate the facial expressions with specific emotions then vocalize with the relevent expression. And then break those schemas after finding our patterns. At the end, We combined the body posture exercise with the facial expression bit altogether and breaking the patterns again.

Changing ways of our pattern of using our voice and body to associate emotions, I wonder which part of our unconscious selves are being revealed with this exercise?
